I understand that someone was looking for Brookbanks from North Carolina. My grandmother, Mabel Brookbank Neal (1891-1955) was the daughter of John Burton Brookbank who was from Brown's Summit near Greensboro in North Carolina. His parents were Thomas Brookbank and Sallie Knott. John moved out to Iowa in the late 1800s but returned to North Carolina for awhile when my grandmother was quite young, to care for his mother. His mother might have been Native American, or of Native American ancestry. There is a story that some of the Brookbank family wandered down from Canada at some point and married an Indian somewhere on the way to North Carolina. But all of this family history is pretty jumbled. I do have the exact dates for my grandmother's, great grandfather's and great-great grandfather's generation, which I can look for upon request.
